Newly-Elected Seven Member Island Council Sworn In

A General Election for the Ascension Island Council was held on 03 July 2025, marking a historic moment for the island. This is the first time since 2013 that a full seven-member council has been elected in a general election.
Eight candidates ran for seven available Councillor positions, with electors being permitted to cast up to seven votes each. Of the 546 registered electors, 207 electors cast 923 valid votes, casting their ballots as follows:
Ethan Duncan Bally - 89 votes (10%)
Thomas Barnes - 119 votes (13%)
Eugene Leroy Bennett - 145 votes (16%)
Michael Duncan Ross Ellick - 116 votes (13%)
Thomas Tyson George Hickling - 140 votes (15%)
Andrew Barry Newsome - 73 votes (8%)
Alan Herbert Nicholls - 111 votes (12%)
Laura Marie Shearer - 130 votes (14%)
In accordance with the number of votes cast, the following persons have been duly elected to serve on the Ascension Island Council:

The councillors were sworn in at the Court House in Georgetown at 17:00, Tuesday 08 July 2025, which was open for the public to attend. Members of the public are free to attend formal meetings of the Island Council, which occur on average every six weeks.
