The Ascension Island Government (AIG) is seeking expressions of interest for the operation of a retail business from Georgetown that serves the needs of the island community. The existing minimarket provides:
• Dry, chilled, and frozen grocery goods
• Deli takeaway facilities
• Alcoholic beverages, including supply to local members’ clubs
• Cleaning products, household items, and general merchandise
The premises comprise a spacious shop floor, backroom facilities, and outdoor storage. The current lease arrangement also includes staff accommodation in Two Boats, consisting of six self-contained units, each with an en suite bedroom and private kitchen.
The Seafish Chandlery Limited has operated a minimarket in Georgetown since 2017, following significant investment to refurbish and establish a modern retail facility serving the Ascension Island community. The company has advised that it intends to withdraw from the island and cease its operations in 2026.
While no fixed transition date has yet been set, AIG is keen to engage early with potential operators to ensure continuity of essential food and retail services on the island.
At this stage, AIG is seeking informal expressions of interest and background information, including relevant experience in retail, food supply, or business operations, before close of business on Friday, 06 February. Subject to responses, a more formal procurement or selection process may then follow.
Anyone interested, or wishing to discuss government rates, local business requirements, or other general matters, is invited to contact Catherine Jones via 67000, extension 1121, or Catherine.jones@ascension.gov.ac.
All enquiries will be treated in confidence.
