Boat Blessing Ceremony – Ascension Guardian

21 May 2025

Government, Press Release

The community is invited to attend the Blessing Ceremony of the new rescue vessel, “ASCENSION GUARDIAN – SEA RESCUE 1”.
The Ascension Island Government’s Sea & Land Rescue Service would like to invite the community to attend the Blessing Ceremony to celebrate the acquisition of our new rescue vessel which will be used to serve the community of Ascension Island.

Following the arrival of the Ascension Guardian in March, extensive sea trials and familiarisation training with our volunteers have been conducted successfully and the boat is now ready for service.

The Blessing Ceremony will take place on Saturday 17 May 2025 from 11:00 to 11:30 at the Pierhead in Georgetown, with a speech by HH The Administrator Simon Minshull, the christening by Natalie Galley, and a blessing by Reverend Clarence Roberts.

The Ascension Island Government would like to place on record its thanks to the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office and the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency who funded this important new vessel, along with the expansion of the Sea Rescue boatshed, a project which should be completed later this month.
