  • They are not exempt from paying income tax in Ascension Island.

Individuals are eligible to stand for election as a Council member if:

  • They are eligible to vote in the election for which you are nominated;
  • They are 21 years of age or over; and
  • They are a British citizen, British Overseas citizen or British Overseas Territory citizen
  • They are not disqualified from being elected as a member of the Council under Section 5 of the Island Government (Ascension) Ordinance, 2008.

In anticipation of the by-election on Thursday 03 September, amendments (additions, deletions or changes of address) may be made to the current Electoral Register until Friday 21 August.

Copies of the current Electoral Register can be inspected in the Administrator’s Office, next to the noticeboard on the ground floor of the AIG Administration building in Georgetown or at Two Boats Club.

If your name does not appear in the current Electoral Register, please contact Jane Disley by telephone on 67000 ext. 116 or by email through jane.disley@ascension.gov.ac, or Carolyn Nutkins by telephone on 67000 ext. 150 or by email through carolyn.nutkins@ascension.gov.ac to request that your name be added or any details corrected. The deadline for any requests for  amendment is 16:00 on Friday 21 August in order to allow any such amendment to be verified.

If you intend to stand for election as an elected member and your name has not been included on the Electoral Register by 31 August, your nomination will be void and your name will not appear on ballot papers.
