Working with partners the AIG Conservation and Fisheries Directorate (AIGCFD) carry out practical conservation and a number of research projects. Those interested in conducting research on Ascension must have an approved Environmental Research Permit. This can be completed and emailed to AIGCFD for consideration.
Below are some of the recent projects that AIGCFD has undertaken.

This is a draft strategy developed following recommendations from the Inshore Fisheries Advisory Committee. It will be consulted on with people living on Ascension to produce a final strategy for protecting our precious inshore fish stocks and fisheries.

The complete Ascension Island MPA Management Plan describing in detail how we intend to manage the MPA over the next five years.

This strategy sets out a five-year plan for how monitoring, evaluation, and research will be carried out in the Ascension Island MPA. Monitoring and evaluation will be crucial to the success of the MPA as they enable the improvement of management, demonstrate progress to supporters, and allow the sharing of best practices with other MPAs.

The Ascension Island Government Conservation and Fisheries Directorate are working alongside researchers from La Rochelle University to analyse the levels of mercury contamination in the Ascension Marine Protected Area (MPA) using sooty terns (Onychoprion fuscatus) as a biological indicator species.
