Description

A moderate sized demersal fish species reaching a maximum recorded size on Ascension of 60.6 cm. Males and females display cryptic camouflage colouration of white, brown and red spots, colour and pattern can change rapidly. Associated with shallow reef and boulder habitat, rock hind are abundant in the shallow sub-littoral surrounding Ascension. Juveniles are morphologically indistinct from adults and are often found in rock pools. Believed to feed on crabs, fishes and squid.
