Governor Completes Third Visit To Ascension

23 July 2025

Government, Press Release

His excellency, Governor Nigel Phillips CBE and his wife, Emma, concluded a productive visit to Ascension Island last week. This was his third visit since taking office in August 2022. During his visit, the Governor met newly elected Councillors, heads of employing organisations and many members of Ascension Island’s community.

Key highlights of the Governor’s visit included hosting a public meeting, opening the newly renovated Sea and Land Rescue Facility, and attending a formal meeting of the Island Council.  Over the course of his visit, the Governor discussed community concerns, government priorities, the one island approach and how to bring these elements together to support and deliver effective governance. The governor reaffirmed his commitment to working with Councillors and the Administrator to achieve the best possible outcomes for this very special British Overseas Territory.

On his visit, Governor Phillips said:

“Ascension Island remains hugely important. I was impressed to see the progress being made on improving the island’s infrastructure. I saw and heard about current challenges, including food security, and the work the AIG and others are doing to address them using the one island approach.  I was also struck by the community’s continued dedication to Ascension’s core mission. Emma thoroughly enjoyed her first visit to Ascension.  Like me, getting to know people a little better is a real pleasure and, of course, the island’s remarkable nature and landscape are a joy to behold.
