Ascension Island Government (AIG) wishes to inform the public that Councillor Bally and Councillor Ellick are currently attending the Westminster Seminar on Effective Parliaments in London from 09 to 13 March 2026.
About the Westminster Seminar on Effective Parliaments
The seminar, organised by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK, brings together officials from 27 Commonwealth jurisdictions. The programme is designed to strengthen understanding of how effective parliaments operate, including the tools and skills needed to support leadership and good governance. Delegates are taking part in discussions on parliamentary best practice, the role of scrutiny in strengthening democratic institutions, and the resources available to support legislators in their work. They are also embracing networking opportunities with representatives from other territories, allowing participants to share experiences and learn about the challenges faced by different legislatures.
During their visit
Sessions also explore emerging issues affecting parliaments globally, including diversity and inclusion in public leadership, the evolving role of technology and artificial intelligence, and how legislative institutions can adapt to a rapidly changing world. Their participation provides an opportunity to strengthen the work of the Island Council.
On attending the seminar, Councillor Bally says:
“It is a privilege to represent Ascension Island, and to engage with colleagues from across the Commonwealth. Opportunities like this allow us to learn from others and consider how best practice can support effective governance for our community.”
Councillor Ellick adds:
“The seminar provides a valuable forum to share experiences and learn how other legislatures operate. I hope the knowledge gained will contribute positively to the work of the Island Council.”
