Report of recent shark incident at Comfortless Cove
AIG have received reports of an incident on the afternoon of 14 April 2021 where two people snorkelling in Comfortless Cove were repeatedly approached by a large Galapagos shark who displayed very threatening behaviour. They were able to scramble out of the water onto the rocks and were not injured by the shark, but they were severely shaken. The couple had prior experience of swimming with sharks and took appropriate measures to deter the shark, but it continued to approach them aggressively.
In light of this incident and the unusually high number of sharks still present in the inshore water around Ascension, AIG would strongly urge anyone considering entering the water to think very carefully about the risks to themselves and those around them.
