22 January 2024

Government, Press Release

His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will make a visit to Ascension Island on Friday, 26 January 2024.

The Duke of Edinburgh will meet Island Councillors, leaders of employing organisations and a range of community volunteers. The Duke will also hear about the Island’s wildlife conservation efforts.

We look forward to welcoming His Royal Highness at the end of this month.

Announcing the visit, the Governor Nigel Phillips said:

“We are honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to Ascension Island, following his visit to St Helena. This promises to be a special occasion allowing representatives of Ascension’s community to talk about the Island’s heritage, unique biodiversity, its strategic role, and the important contribution of volunteers.”

Notes to Editor

This will be the first royal visit to Ascension Island since Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal visited in January 2016. The Duke previously visited Ascension Island in June 2007.

The Duke of Edinburgh is His Majesty The King’s brother and the youngest child of late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
