Anchialine pools are landlocked, saline bodies of water with a permanent, subterranean connection to the ocean but no surface contact.
Ascension Island’s cloud forest zone, or mist region, is confined to the summit slopes of Green Mountain, where frequent immersion in cloud banks creates continuously damp conditions.
The shallow sub-littoral zone comprises the fringe of sunlit, nutrient rich coastal water between the low tide mark and a depth of approximately 50m.
